PRIMARY EXAMPLE OF WHY THE AMERICAN JUSTICE SYSTEM IS FAILING
A VIRTUOSO OF FALSE EVIDENCE, orchestrated by Los Angeles Homicide Detective, Mark Lillienfeld

This highly respected L.A. homicide detective, a veteran of over 20 years and more than 100 cases, has falsified, fabricated and tampered with evidence and witnesses with such aplomb and to such an extraordinary extent in the Thompson murder case that he could have only drawn upon past experience to accomplish what Goodwin's defense attorney, in Orange County, filed with Lillienfeld's superiors and L.A. Internal Affairs.

Jeffrey Benice, Goodwin's defense attorney in the Orange County case against Goodwin, now dismissed, filed this letter and report with L.A. Internal Affairs. This report covers only a small percentage of the documented incidences of misconduct by Detective Mark Lillienfeld.

THE CSI EFFECT

THE CSI EFFECT:THE CSI EFFECT:
A relatively new problem with justice in America has recently emerged. Most of what the public knows about the legal system comes from media reporting and the pseudo-documentaries that purport to depict law enforcement realistically. Known collectively as the “C SI Effect,” the phenomenon affects not only trials but also the public's perception of what happens in criminal investigations.

Possible Justice On Trial Nomination for Funding by the American Express Members Project Philanthropy
Since April of 2002, Justice On Trial , a non-profit advocacy organization for the wrongfully accused, has been working on several cases of persons wrongfully accused. In 2001, Michael Goodwin was illegally arrested in Orange County and charged with the murders of Mickey and Trudy Thompson. In 2004, as a result of the brilliant work of his attorneys, Jeffrey H. Friedman, Jeffrey Benice and others, along with the assistance of Justice On Trial, the case was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds. Justice On Trial was responsible for major funding, investigation, legal research, advisories to supporters regarding various aspects of this case. Unfortunately, Goodwin was charged and ultimately wrongfully convicted in Los Angeles.
We strongly believe his appeal will be successful, with the remedy of a new trial, where he will be acquitted/exonerated.

ANATOMY OF A WRONGFUL CONVICTION:
Judge Teri Schwartz, the judge who had presided over the Thompson murder trial, seemed detached from the dire verdict, yet, it was her extraordinary, obvious bias and obtuse rulings that fed L.A. ’s conviction machine and secured a surprised Patrick Dixon his umpteenth guilty verdict.  At about 11:30 AM on January 4th in the Pasadena courtroom where the Thompson murder trial had played out over 5 weeks, . Judge Teri Schwartz read the verdict, “Guilty,”  as though she was describing the daily special to hungry diners, mechanically, cavalierly

THE REALITY "SPEEDY TRIAL" = QUICK CONVICTION

IS A “SPEEDY TRIAL” CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED? The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says: “ In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed…” These guarantees ''are the most basic rights preserved by our Constitution;'' fundamental liberties
embodied in the Bill of Rights. The due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment makes them applicable to all States.
