This highly respected L.A. homicide detective, a veteran of over 20 years and more than 100 cases, has falsified, fabricated and tampered with evidence and witnesses with such aplomb and to such an extraordinary extent in the Thompson murder case that he could have only drawn upon past experience to accomplish what Goodwin's defense attorney, in Orange County, filed with Lillienfeld's superiors and L.A. Internal Affairs.
Jeffrey Benice, Goodwin's defense attorney in the Orange County case against Goodwin, now dismissed, filed this letter and report with L.A. Internal Affairs. This report covers only a small percentage of the documented incidences of misconduct by Detective Mark Lillienfeld.

Since April of 2002, Justice On Trial , a non-profit advocacy organization for the wrongfully accused, has been working on several cases of persons wrongfully accused. In 2001, Michael Goodwin was illegally arrested in Orange County and charged with the murders of Mickey and Trudy Thompson. In 2004, as a result of the brilliant work of his attorneys, Jeffrey H. Friedman, Jeffrey Benice and others, along with the assistance of Justice On Trial, the case was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds. Justice On Trial was responsible for major funding, investigation, legal research, advisories to supporters regarding various aspects of this case. Unfortunately, Goodwin was charged and ultimately wrongfully convicted in Los Angeles.
We strongly believe his appeal will be successful, with the remedy of a new trial, where he will be acquitted/exonerated.
